Review Proposal - May 2011
Review of NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance No. 122; Alteplase for the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke
In June 2010 we informed stakeholders that TA122; Alteplase for the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke had been incorporated into the published NICE clinical guideline No. 68; Stroke - Diagnosis and initial management of acute stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA). The original appraisal guidance was to be extant until the time that the guideline is reviewed. Consideration of a review of CG68 will take place in June 2011.
As part of the review consideration process, the Institute decides whether sufficient new evidence has emerged for the Appraisal Committee to be asked to undertake a full appraisal review.
Having re-looked at the guidance and the possible scope for a review, we believe that this topic would be better dealt with within the context of the aforementioned clinical guideline. Consequently we propose that the review of the original guidance TA122 be updated if or when the NICE Clinical Guidelines team decide to update CG68; Stroke - Diagnosis and initial management of acute stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA). We propose that TA122 is moved to the static list, by doing so the technology appraisal will remain extant alongside the guideline until the time that an updated guideline is published (if a decision is taken to update).
In order to be completely confident that this is appropriate, we are asking all relevant consultees and commentators, to inform us of any evidence which will help us decide the best way to update this guidance. Please see appendix A for a full list of the organisations we have contacted.
