Preventing type 2 diabetes - risk identification and interventions for individuals at high risk: call for evidence

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has been asked by the Department of Health (DH) to develop public health guidance on Prevention of type 2 diabetes: prevention of the progression of pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes among adults in high-risk groups. A series of evidence reviews and an economic analysis are being conducted to address the key questions that are set out in the scope.

The final scope for this guidance can be found here http://guidance.nice.org.uk/PHG/Wave19/62

We would like to receive details of evidence that relates to the questions below and are outlined in the scope.

  • How do the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of methods of identification and monitoring adults with impaired glucose regulation, and/or lifestyle interventions, vary between different communities or groups including vulnerable and disadvantaged groups?
  • Which interventions or strategies, and which combinations of interventions or strategies, are the most effective and cost effective in preventing or delaying type 2 diabetes in adults with pre-diabetes within a given community?
  • What are the barriers and facilitators that may affect the implementation, effectiveness and cost effectiveness of these interventions or strategies? (This should include any barriers and facilitators for specific groups.)

We are interested in identifying UK studies that have been published since 2000 or any ongoing research that is being conducted in the UK that relates to the review questions outlined above. We are interested in a broad range of different types of evidence. It may be quantitative or qualitative research. The studies may be published in journals, texts or monographs or be in the grey literature.

We are particularly interested in evidence that may help to better promote equality of opportunity relating to age, disability, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion and belief, sexual orientation or socio-economic status. Subgroups that may be missed by conventional services are of particular interest, for example people with learning difficulties, mental health problems, the prison population, travellers, refugees and recent migrants.

Please note that the following material is not eligible for consideration:
