Guidance issued

IPG Number: IPG156

Summary

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued full guidance to the NHS in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on image-guided vacuum assisted excision biopsy of benign breast lesions.

Description

It uses a needle probe device with vacuum suction to remove breast tissue under imaging guidance (commonly ultrasound). The aim of the procedure is to continue using the biopsy device until the lesion visible on imaging is removed.
