Misuse of drugs and other substances: audit criteria

This audit criteria tool has been developed to support a suite of NICE guidance on the misuse of drugs and other substances. This includes the following guidance, two clinical guidelines - psychosocial interventions (CG51) and opioid detoxification (CG52), and the public health intervention on substance misuse (PHI4). Separate audit criteria have been produced to support the two technology appraisals on methadone and buprenorphine (TA114) and naltrexone (TA115).

These audit criteria have been developed by CASPE. The criteria are developed to support the key recommendations from the suite of guidance and are designed to help NHS organisations with their baseline assessment and to help them review and monitor practice to ensure compliance with the key recommendations. They provide ready-to-use criteria which can be cut and pasted into existing audit tools and they include exceptions, definitions and data source suggestions. General information to help you carry out the audit is also included.
