CG113 Anxiety: guide to self-help resources
The document at the bottom of this page is a guide to self-help resources for people with generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). It signposts to 36 on-line resources that are free of charge and that will help people with GAD to manage their symptoms. Educating people with GAD about their condition and how it can be managed is known to improve less severe presentations and avoid the need for further interventions.
All the resources have been produced by government organisations, large charities or other national organisations. They range from sources of information like web pages, leaflets, videos and podcasts, to interactive workbooks and signposting to self-help groups. Some of the resources are available in different languages in written and audio format.
The guide includes links to:
- Information that explains what GAD is and gives advice on practical ways of dealing with symptoms
- Self-help materials such as relaxation videos and workbooks and information about helplines and support groups
- Information about cognitive behavioural therapy and how it is carried out
- Information resources that families, friends and carers may find useful
The guide should be used on-line so that people can click on the links to view the resources.
Healthcare professionals can pass on the address of this webpage to people with GAD, or include the website address in any information that is routinely given to people who present with GAD.
