The remit for this guideline was received from the Department of Health and the National Assembly for Wales.

Consultation on the draft scope is complete and the scope is being modified in the light of comments received. When completed it will be posted on the website. It will define what aspects of care the guideline will cover and to whom it will apply.

10 April 2002 Scope added.
09 July 2002 Schedule and list of stakeholders amended.
27 September 2002 Development of the clinical guideline is under way and is being led by the National Collaborating Centre. The Guideline Development Group meets regularly to oversee and assist the identification, review and synthesis of the evidence, the incorporation of expert consensus opinion and the translation of the evidence into recommendations for practice and audit criteria. Three versions of the guideline are under preparation: a full guideline, a NICE short-form guideline and information for the public.
07 November 2003 Consultation on the first consultation draft of the guideline is complete and the guideline is being modified in the light of comments received. Please see timescales above for the dates of the final round of consultation with stakeholders.
30 January 2004 Consultation on the final consultation draft of the guideline is complete and the guideline is being modified in the light of comments received.
05 April 2004 Patient Involvement Leads added.
20 May 2004 Expected date of issue amended.
